As you can't fail to have noticed, things are changing in public service in Britain at the moment. In this time of financial curbs, we are endeavouring to keep to the standards we have set for the highest quality of education for all of our students. This will be tough during 2011-2 but we are determined to weather the storms.
We have agreed a working design for the new co-located school and you can look at this on the ‘Read Reports' page. As you will see, the design includes a grand new Hydrotherapy pool, much bigger classrooms, a lovely indoor courtyard, and much improved access and grounds. We are working to finalise the design with a final start date for development of April 2011, when we hope the building work will begin. As always, if you are a parent keen to become involved in this exciting chapter of the school's development, give me a call!
As you know Stubbin Wood is a school with a lot of international links and this year we welcomed three colleagues from Sudan, who visited us in October 2010. Our thanks to Yahia, Omima and Abbas, who gave us a fascinating insight into education in Sudan and who are keen to become further involved with us into 2011; perhaps we shall be able to visit them and learn more.
We sent one of our teachers to Shanghai for three months at the beginning of September, to work with our Chinese colleagues and their students at Yang Fan School. This was a fantastic opportunity for our teacher and she learnt a lot – not just about her host school, but about China and social attitudes to education, opportunity for people with learning difficulties, and the common thread we share in our work with young people with special educational needs. Thank you to Mr. Chen and all his staff for their support.
We are applying once again for Comenius project for 2011, working with our friends across Europe, to create another great shared learning experience for all our students in England, Latvia, Germany, Turkey and the Czech Republic. Hopefully we will be successful; we sent teachers across to Riga in November to negotiate the bid with colleagues there. Fingers crossed!
Elsewhere in school, we have new students, new staff, and a lot of fun.
