Welcome to
Stubbin Wood School

Our pupils and their families are our future and the reason we are here. At Stubbin Wood, we work to give our young people the skills, knowledge and understanding to succeed in their lives, to challenge their circumstances, to become as independent as possible, and to enjoy the rights and privileges that are theirs and those of all children everywhere.

A message from the Headteacher

Welcome to our website. I hope that you find it useful, and that it helps you understand a little about our school.

A lot happens at Stubbin Wood, far more than we can show you in these pages. That’s the pleasure of working here – there’s always something new to do and to celebrate. We welcome all current parents to the school, and invite anybody with an interest in our school, be it a prospective parent or a professional colleague, to come and meet us and our wonderful children, of whom we are rightly proud.

This website is still being developed, and in due course we hope to have a ‘Parents Page’ and a page for our pupils to show off what they do well and enjoy. If you have any comments about the content, or would just like to say hello, please contact us here on the addresses given.

Thank you for taking the time to visit us.

Having achieved the target of £20000 for a specialist schools bid, we have submitted the application form and await the outcome. We should know whether we have been successful in this round some time in January 2009.

Development work at school continues, with the application by school for Artsmark Silver, following on from an evaluation of our work in the arts, music and drama. Once again, we should be informed of the outcome by the Arts Council in summer 2009. We have just been awarded the Careersmark, and are engaged in achieving the Financial Management Standard – again for 2009.

We have introduced a new termly Art Competition across school, where all the pupils are invited to make their entries and win a £10 art token! The title of this term’s competition is ‘Christmas Calendar’ and we have some pictures of entries on the new Pupil Work page.

Other news – we expect to be entering upon discussions regarding the design process for the co-located secondary department and the new school early in spring 2009, hoping to work successfully toward the opening of the new building in September 2011. Watch this space!!

We continue to be active internationally, having just brought back a group of young people from Shanghai, China, after a very successful visit there. Our students visited the Yang Fan special school in the Yang Pu District, climbed the Great Wall, probed the secrets of the Forbidden City, and had a McDonalds in Beijing! And all after a 12 hour flight! We were very fortunate to have had the honour of teaching physical education to Chinese students while visiting Yang Fan, and were very kindly invited to the home of a parent of a student at the school. We have added a few pictures of the visit – you may recognise the ‘Bird’s Nest’ Olympic Stadium – and can report that everyone had both a great time, and were very affected by the experience. We hope to welcome a return party from China during 2009.

Elsewhere, we are off to Riga, in Latvia, later this term, and to Turkey in the summer 2009. Following the development of links with other schools across Europe we will be visiting Germany, France and the Czech Republic over the next couple of years.

And as if all that wasn’t enough, we expect OFSTED sometime this year. Lets hope they enjoy looking at ‘holiday’ slides!!
